From the newsletter of Amici della Birra breweriana club in Torino, Italy as published in The World of Beer Magazine. “Musical Beer” Even if it is not well known, many musicians are tied in some way to beer. Famous composer, Johann Strauss senior, was using beer in an unconventional manner. When he was a young self-educated violinist he was pouring it inside his violin for refining the sound! Viennese Michael Pamer, waltz pioneer, before performing his most famous piece would drink a pint of beer. This rite was repeated at each encore and in each place he played. “Beer on Board” During World War II the British Royal Navy installed a special plant for producing beer on the support ship, HMS Menestheus. Distilled water, concentrated hops and malt extract were used. No indication of who was the brewmaster!
