April 27, 2011 City Brewing Co to Purchase Memphis Brewing Facility City Brewing Co. of La Crosse Wisconsin will purchase the Hardy Bottling Co., Memphis Tennessee for $30 million and spend another $11 million restarting the defunct brewing operation. The plant was built in 1971 by Jos. Schlitz Brewing Co., acquired by Stroh Brewery Co. in 1982, and then Adolph Coors Co. in 1990. Coors merged with Canada’s Molson Inc. in 2004. City Brewing bills itself as the nations fourth-largest brewer and the largest contract brewer. It is a privately held company founded in 1999, buying G.
